Suggestions

This page is for suggestions for awn, please list them below:
(Take further part in the conversation and development by visiting the AWN Forums)

  1. Make Topaz ideas a reality
  2. Allow adding a launcher icon via a right-click menu.
  3. Cycle focus thru window list using the scroll wheel
  4. Differentiate between minimized and opened windows
  5. Support Unicode labels
  6. Order app icons by the viewpoints where the apps are located
  7. Add plugin-load hook (see: Listen plugin )
  8. Group windows and have the option of when to group them (always, never or when space is limited)
  9. Allow AWN able to ignore certain program windows. Useful for programs that have a systray icon/other access.
  10. Add ability to group icons. You could switch between entrys in a group by using the scrollwheel over an icon. In this case the current icon would change to the next in the group (would be a good idea for window-groups for gimp or glade2 too)
  11. Fly-out launchers like in ObjectDock, or at least some form of application menu.
ObjectDock's fly-out menu
12. Drag and drop files to AWN.
13. Developing a plugin manager for all those standalone plugins with a simple plugin base class. This way only the manager needs to be run and not every single plugin (firefox plugin, amarok, ...)
14. Add a "hide/unhide delay" to manage auto hide feature
15. Allowing to Open another window to a running application from her luncher (luncher that became a task which is a task and a luncher) with middle mouse button or else.

Implemented Suggestions

  1. Have a clear separator between launchers and windows.
  2. Have launcher/window separator bar disappear when nothing is on the other side of it.
  3. Tooltips should be "on top" of everything - at the moment, the dock is always on top, but windows near it cover up the app name when I hover.
  4. Moveable launchers, able to change positions on the dock.
  5. Add the ability to launch another instance of a already launched programs (middle click on the lancher)
  6. Make the height of the dock configurable
  7. The ability to add gnome-applets to the dock (Applets)
  8. Plugin API
  9. Allow setting the icon for an app manually, so that the default icon settings can be overridden.

Implemented in Plugins

  1. Music Player Icon Changes to album art of song playing
  2. Gaim Icons that show whats going on; The icon could be the away icon when you're away, for example.

Implemented in Applets

  1. Integrate Affinity as search engine
  2. Display the systray / notification area

Implemented in Patch

  1. Add ability to disable all mouseover effects, including the little bounce
  2. Add an option to change the font of the tooltips and to change the size of the icons

Implemented Through External Program

  1. Theme Packages (AWN Themer or Appropus)

Partially Implemented in Patch or Other

    1. The possibility to move the awn bar in another desktop side.
    2. Add Zoom/Fisheye animation effect a la MacOSX - perhaps appropriate code from gnome-dock?
    3. Translate AWN for other languages
    4. Include an option to disable the sudden appearance of apps from appearing in awn when they're on another desktop. (This works, but is not yet completely done.

mchikina Please seperate the launcher and task manager 0 Oct 26 2007, 3:40 PM EDT by mchikina

I would like to be able to activate the menu without having the task manager. I often have 20 open terminals and having an icon for each of them just creates clutter

It would be nice to have awn just act like an icon bar. JUST an icon bar, with no task manager. So, please do something like that. Thanks.

i just find one thing to be changed in AWN mainly...when you set AWN to flash the icon when application requires attention...and then you make a skype call...now if the skype call window is not focused ....the skype icon keeps flashing until the call ends...mainly because its window title keeps changing...can we have an option to disable icon flashing for skype call window.

ajvajv moving block of icons 0 Aug 16 2007, 11:09 AM EDT by ajvajv
Thread started: Aug 16 2007, 11:09 AM EDT  Watch
When you close any program (let's suppose that is one in the middle of the bar) the icon fly and vanishes, and then the icons left accomodate on the bar. The left block of icons do it smoothly, but the right block just stick to the left one like if they where magnetized :-P . So the suggestion would be: could you do something to move the right block of icons smoothly? I hope to have myself explained. Bye.
