I wanted to work on this at a higher level, rather than writing plugins every time I wanted a popup window, to utilise a window manager function to achieve the effect. I still think that this kind of thing is better placed in the window manager, as it could become a lot more useful if it were placed there.

i think this is a great idea however (no offence to the artists) but the mock-ups are nasty looking....suggestion maybe were you hover over the icon say 5 seconds by default and it shows the buddy list and thats the only time it does i just think that would make it better (with settings available)

Now this cuold look cool, or really ugly. But maybe have that chat windows build off the buddy list? liek kind of connected. Somoen would have to make a mock-up to see if it actually looks good though.
